What
is a Wireless or WiFi HotSpot or Hot Zone?
A HotSpot is the
term used to describe an area or building where you can access the
Internet without the need for cables or wires. Your computer, laptop,
PDA or phone does not need to be physically connected to a phone line
or wired network to access the web or email.
Not only are there no wires or cables to connect to the internet,
but you also get broadband speed connections which are much faster
than traditional dial-up connections when travelling away from your
home or office.
HotSpots come in all shapes and sizes.
They can cover a small coffee shop or an entire town, and everything
in between. The size of a HotSpot determines the range or coverage
area in which you can ‘pick up’ the wireless signal and
get fast internet access.
Wireless Internet access works in
a similar way to your Mobile or Cell phone. You can make and receive
phone calls without being connected into a phone socket. In the
same way that mobile and cell phones receive and send data through
the air to a base station or mast, your computer, laptop or PDA
will send and receive data through the air to a Wireless Access
Point.
Air-Net HotSpots are based on Wireless
Mesh Technology. This means that a HotSpot can grow to cover
a large area by adding more and more access points without any cables
or wires. Users can roam within a HotSpot and continue to have access
instead of having to stay in a particular part of the building or
area. |

Other
HotSpot Solutions often require cable to be run to each Access Point
within a building or area to offer a larger coverage area, or simply
have a single Access Point which has limited coverage.
With the emergence of Voice over IP telephony wireless internet
Hot Spots offer users the mobility of a Mobile or Cell phone at
a fraction of the cost. Wireless Mesh Technology is well suited
to this application as it offers a secure, scalable communications
infrastructure at an affordable price.
